Experience the benefit of training that allows you to learn, return to the classroom to practice skills, and then return to hone those skills. Working with Students with Autism in the Schools (WASS) and Early Intervention for Young Children with Autism (EIYCA) were created with that process in mind. Educators choose between these trainings according to the age of the students in the respective classroom.
In WASS, topics covered include specific ways to analyze and alter the environment; analyzing behavioral data to determine appropriate interventions; developing effective programs through IEP writing; creating a system for organizing educational strategies; teaching new skills and behaviors to students; and working in collaborative teams to achieve the most success. Discover information about behavior and reinforcement, social skills training, augmentative and alternative communication, and functional communication training. The training consists of four days, split into two, two-day presentations about four to six weeks apart.
EIYCA is designed for educators who are, or will be, working with preschool students with autism, with content specific to communication, behavior, and curricular issues. The focus is on systematic ways to address problem behavior through assessing and altering the environment and/or curriculum, teaching new skills, choosing effective research based methodologies, determining effective intervention strategies and discussing current trends and topics related to early intervention. This training consists of a hybrid online/face-to-face format: day 1 is completed online and day 2 is face-to-face, there is a four to six week break, then day 3 is completed online and day 4 is face-to-face.
WASS and EIYCA each have Introduction to Education of Students with Autism as the prerequisite.
