I recently started Grad school in the summer of 2011, and it is very stressful! The good thing is that I love my major, I still do Speeech Language Pathology, and I love giving speech therapy to people that need it. I had to take six hours during the summer and last fall had to take fourteen. This spring I have to take 13 hours and tomorrow is my first day of classes.. I am very nervous, but I am excited to get another semester out of the way. Tomorrow, I also get to do a video with the CSD department in order to help promote our department, I am excited about doing this, and I will post the link later on, once the video is finished and published. I have learned many things starting grad school, one of the many to prioritize, I don’t get as much time to socialize and hang out as I used to, but it is part of school. I have had to learn to study more and to keep up with reading for my classes, as well as do a project as soon as it is assigned, even if you have a month or two months to work on it, since you will be assigned more throughout the semester. I also learned to keep cool, don’t stress out more than you need to, and have confidence in yourself. I had the issue of feeling like I couldn’t keep up or that I couldn’t do this, but in the end, thats how most of the students will feel in your program. Just get things done, and stay on top of things, and it will be less stressful for you in the end. I have a graduate assistantship, which means I have to work for the school 20 hours a week , I get paid a stipend and will also get my tuition paid for.. If you are considering grad school, be sure to consider looking for graduate assistanships, since this will ease your financial burdens, as well as make it easier for you to be flexible at your job and school. I think if i would have worked off campus, it would have been more difficult to have the flexibility I needed for school. Since it is an on campus job, I was only about ten minutes away from my job and it was easier to get to my job and classes taking the shuttle. I enjoy m y assistanship , I do many things and have learned so much, and met people I wouldn’t have met if I didn’t have this job.
Cancun
So I graduated in May 2011, and in order to treat myself, I saved for a trip to Cancun in June two weeks after my graduation. I stayed six days and 6 nights in Cancun, and it was the most beautiful place I have ever been to! I can’t believe, I went to such an amazing place. The weather was wonderful, the people were very friendly and the sun was so warm! Everytime I wish I could be somewhere, my imagination instantly sends me back to Cancun, if you ever visit a beach, please visit this place, I have only been to three other different beaches, all in the United States, and Cancun is by far the best beach ever. Also be sure to try the wonderful food, they have so many options, such as seafood, or mexican food, even american food. Be sure to wear sunscreen and protect yourself from the sun, I came back a little bit sunburned and had spots on my skin from so much sun exposure, the sun feels good, but don’t let it fool you, it is still very dangerous to be out in the sun with no sunscreen! I went to many places, such as XCARET which is a national park in Mexico, it is about thirty of forty minutes away from Cancun, but its even more beautiful than cancun, and they have so much to offer , and you can get travel deals transportation included at your hotel or online. We also went to try the nightlife, Coco Bongo is definitely a fun show, they have so many entertainer perform the whole night, such as imitators of Beyonce, Usher, Madonna, and also other types of performances. The nights and mornings are just beautiful there, and the clear blue water is the prettiest.. I am ready to go back to Cancun soon!
Graduation
So I have not been on here too much since I graduated . . I graduated May 2011 , it was a great feeling! I got accepted to Grad school at MSU, all these were big stepping stones for me, I am a first generation college student, so it was a beautiful feeling to be able to walk down that walkway and receive my degree! I graduated with a BS in Communication Sciences and Disorders.. My family was there to enjoy the moment with me.. Neither of my parents were able to receive a college degree or a high school diploma, so it was a very emotional time for all of us. I was very proud of myself because I know my parents have worked very hard to be able to keep me in college and help me with what they could, as well as keeping up my grades to keepy my scholarships, I can’t believe i did it!!

This event was hosted by the PBR at the John Q Hammons Arena here at school.. At first I was so scared for all the bull-riders out there , i thought I was going to see someone die! But it was an experience I don’t regret trying..

The university does many activities to celebrate this month.. Some of these include an opening ceremony with Mariachi and free food! There was also a fashion show which was super exciting.. Trip to Chicago
On February 18 I went to a really awesome conference in Chicago! It was called USHLI which stands for United States Hispanic Leadership Institute, it was a very inspirational conference where many presenters brought their stories of success and hard work, which helped motivate me to keep working hard at school! Chicago was cold, but I am ready to go back, here are some pics I took while there!
