Oedipus Rex Comes to Coger Theatre

On April 2, 3, 4, and 5, the MSU Theatre and Dance Department presents Sophocles’s Oedipus Rex, translated by Carl R. Mueller.

Oedipus, of course, needs little introduction to fans of the Greek and Latin classics. What’s less commonly known is that Oedipus Rex is also gripping entertainment which addresses serious questions about how we ought to lead our lives. This is a great opportunity to watch one of the highlights of Classical drama performed live – and a chance to thank our performing arts community for performing something from our repertoire!

All performances in Coger Theatre (inside Craig Hall)
April 2-4, 2009, at 7:30 PM & April 5, 2009, at 2:30 PM
Tickets: $8 (MSU advance purchase), $12, $14

What’s up with ANT 250?

According to the MSU Undergraduate Catalog, ANT 250 (World Prehistory) is required of every Antiquities major and minor at MSU. Unfortunately, the professor of Anthropology who taught this course every semester, Dr. Juris Zarins, is now retired from Missouri State. To date, there are no plans to hire another Near Eastern archaeologist who could offer this class as part of his or her regular teaching load.

Even as I type this, the requirements for the Antiquities major and minor are being studied for revision in light of present staffing. In the meantime, I want to assure all Antiquities majors and minors that we will provide you with the classes you need to graduate on time. Very often, I can make substitutions with classes currently taught at MSU but not explicitly listed in the major and minor requirements. For example, I regularly substitute either ANT 125 (Human Ancestry) or ANT 240 (Introduction to Archaeology) for ANT 250. This is just an (important) example.

If you have any further questions, please contact me in person, via email, or by (hint, hint) this blog. A special tip of the hat to Sarah Riccardi for asking this excellent question.
