Coordinators for Artsfest on Walnut Street have chosen the design of senior graphic design student Robert Adams for its 2015 promotional materials. It will be featured on festival posters, t-shirts, banners and advertisements.
About the contest
Each year, Artsfest partners with Design Program Coordinator Maria Michalczyk’s graphic design class to create the branding for the two-day festival, occurring this year on May 2-3. Around a dozen designs were presented to the Artsfest committee for consideration this year.
About the design
Adams’ design caught the committee’s attention for its use of color and fresh look, said Sarah Hough, community event coordinator for the Urban Districts Alliance. Hough is a 2006 MSU graduate in English.
“Robert’s design conveys the feel of Artsfest — a fun, dynamic spring-time event — and stands alone as a piece of artwork in its own right,” she said.
About the student
Adams, a St. Charles, Missouri, native, is pursuing a fine arts degree in graphic design. He is a student designer at Missouri State’s office of publications and has worked with a diverse client list of event planners, musicians, artists, promoters, social organizations and performance venues.
Adams said he views design as a jigsaw puzzle he can help clients put together, centered around creating a message that can be delivered visually to audiences.
“Design is an incredibly powerful tool for communication and can be used in so many different ways. It has the ability to make a huge impact on our culture and community.”
