Springfield — Five Missouri State Art History and Museum Studies students and alumni presented their research and conservation of art from Africa, Oceania, and the Americas in a poster session at the Missouri Archaeology Society 2016 Annual Spring Meeting. The poster session Conservation and Research of Art and Artifacts was organized and chaired by Dr. Billie Follensbee, Professor of Art History in the MSU Department of Art and Design; Dr. Follensbee invited students and alumni who had completed final course projects in ART488/MST488: Basic Conservation of Art and Artifacts, a Citizenship and Service-Learning Integrated course taught by Follensbee in Fall 2016. The Missouri Archaeology Society annual meeting includes posters, presentations, and exhibits from throughout Missouri and neighboring states.
The poster session included the following presentations: Paige Whitcomb, “Conservation and Reconstruction of a Fragmentary 19th-century Headstone;” Tana Redman, “Conservation and Reconstruction of a 19th-century Headstone and Footstone;” Kaitlyn Sanford, “Conservation of Kuba Shoowa Velvet;” David Wright, “Conservation of an Iatmul Suspension Hook and a Baule Spirit Figure;” and Elizabeth Rodwell, “Conservation of a Polynesian Tapa Cloth.”
The posters will be on display in the hallway next to the Brick City west gallery, BRK 2, Department of Art and Design, Missouri State University from late May through August 2016.
