From developing new chemical compounds to presidential performances, Bears in the Know has it all.
The Missouri State University Foundation and Arvest present a series of luncheons to showcase interesting projects and activities at MSU.
The luncheons will take place in the Turner Family Hospitality Room at the Kenneth E. Meyer Alumni Center. Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. with the program following at noon. Tickets are $10 per lunch or $50 for all six sessions.
“The series gives attendees information about the broad range of educational endeavors and opportunities here at Missouri State,” said Stephanie Smith, senior director of donor relations and special events. “We are privileged to learn about the excellent things happening first hand from those directly involved.”

Sept. 20: Southwest Missouri: A Hub for Hospitality Education and Research
Dr. Stephanie Hein, head of the department of hospitality leadership, and Dr. Albert Barreda, associate professor of hospitality leadership, highlight the department’s academic and industry collaborations. By connecting classroom content with practical application, they will show what the industry has in store for enhancing travel experiences and maximizing profits.
Nov. 29: Reconsidering the Scots-Irish Ozarks: 40 Years of Ozarks Study at MSU
Dr. Brooks Blevins, professor of history, will focus on the debate of the ethnocultural origins of the people of the Ozarks, challenging the idea of the Ozarks as a Scots-Irish culture stronghold.
Jan. 31, 2018: What can an Inorganic Chemist Do in the Biomedical Field? A Tale of One’s Investigations in MSU and Overseas
Dr. Nikolay Gerasimchuk, professor of chemistry, will showcase the work done by the department of chemistry in discovering new compounds derived from silver, platinum and palladium, and their use for therapeutic biological application.
March 28, 2018: An Inside Look at MSU Choral Studies
Dr. Cameron LaBarr, director of choral studies, discusses the choral program, including the chorale’s performance at the 58th Presidental Inauguration. The MSU Chorale will also perform.
May 23, 2018: Recruitment, Retention and a STRONG Future in Agriculture
Dr. Ronald Del Vecchio, dean of the Darr College of Agriculture, and Jim Bellis, assistant to the dean, will share about the college’s heritage and the reasons behind the recent growth in student numbers and properties.
July 25, 2018: How COB Connects with Businesses on Real World Projects
Dr. David Meinert, associate dean of the College of Business, will highlight the new learning labs in the Glass Hall expansion as part of the growth of the college. Meinert will focus on the BKD Financial Trading Lab and the Marlin Think Tank for Creative Thinking in Business.
