It is National Nutrition Month and the theme is “Enjoy the Taste of Eating Right.” The Academy for Nutrition and Dietetics has all kinds of great information on their website, including handouts on National Nutrition Month.
One of the best ways to eat healthy, flavorful foods is to add fruits and vegetables to your diet. Make 2 cups of fruit and 2 1/2 cups of vegetables your daily goal. The more color on your plate, the better. Eat flavorful, healthy and “right!”
Ways to enjoy more fruits and vegetables:
1. Use vegetables as pizza toppings. Try broccoli, spinach, green peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms and zucchini.
2. Try crunchy vegetables instead of chips with your favorite low-fat dressing or salsa.
3. Add color to salads with baby carrots, grape tomatoes, spinach leaves or mandarin oranges.
4. Wake up to a fruit by adding berries to oatmeal, yogurt, or ready-to-eat cereal.
5. Place colorful fruit where everyone can easily grab something for a snack-on-the-run. Keep a bowl of fresh fruit in the center of your kitchen table.
