Dietetics students in Medical Nutrition Therapy 2 Lab start the semester with tough topics, enteral and parenteral nutrition. These alternative ways of feeding are methods of getting nutrition to an ill patient who has trouble meeting his needs orally. We learn how to calculate tube feedings and TPN and also practice placing a nasogastric (NG) tube.
Senior dietetics students, Kim Boyer and Lizzy Nixon, are working together with our tube feeding model to place the NG tube down the esophagus and into the stomach. This hands-on learning will help them prepare for upcoming dietetic internships and possibly work in a hospital.
