Dietetic intern Julia Henry recently organized the Great American Milk Drive for Ozarks Food Harvest. Julia shared this information regarding her recent experiences:
During my time at Ozarks Food Harvest I was involved in every aspect of planning the Great American Milk Drive. This included writing and sending sponsorship request packets, calling and emailing potential sponsors, brainstorming and contacting businesses for raffle prizes, writing thank you letters and more. I learned how much work goes into planning community-wide events and had a lot of fun in the process. I especially loved working with my preceptor to design the graphics for the event, including the poster, social media posts and a label for milk bottles used in the Pints to Gallons program. To find out more about how you can help in the Pints to Gallons program, visit ozarksfoodharvest.org. I also got promote the event on live television and was interviewed by KSMU, our local public radio station.
To our knowledge, this event was the first of its kind and we didn’t really know what to expect. We felt the event was a great success, especially for its first year. Afterwards, all Ozarks Food Harvest staff who were involved met and discussed what worked and what did not so next year’s event can be even better. Here are the latest numbers on money raised:
Sponsors: $7,100.00
Event: $169.90
Pints to Gallons: $83.14
After Event: $500.00
Total Raised: $7,853.14 (this provides 1,570 milk vouchers!)
