3…2…1…The Citizenship and Service-Learning office counts down for the liftoff of a nationwide initiative based on civic engagement. Missouri State University is one of few institutions selected to serve as a “lead” institution for the Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement (CLDE) project to be showcased through NASPA and AAC&U. This initiative runs through December of 2013 and addresses the US Department of Education’s Call to Action for institutions of higher education to promote and engage campuses in CLDE. In fall 2010, Global Perspective Institute Inc. (GPI), in collaboration with the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), was awarded a contract by the U.S. Department of Education to assess the state of civic learning and democratic engagement among two- and four-year colleges and universities. The project was charged with producing a national report and action plan with ambitious recommendations for strengthening these commitments.
This initiative is chaired by Katherine Nordyke, Director of the Office of Citizenship and Service-Learning. Kathy and her committee are excited to assess and evaluate Missouri State University from both the academic affairs and the student affairs prospectives.
Missouri State University continues to soar higher and higher and this CLDE opportunity, alongside Missouri State’s recent selection to serve as a lead institution for the AASCU & ADP (American Democracy Project) Civic Health Initiative for Campus and Community, provides opportunity to truly showcase the university’s commitment and enduring work.
