In early March the CDR offered its 5-day Civil and Family Mediation training, and was pleased to provide a record number of scholarships for students and community members to attend this event, with total scholarships exceeding $8000.
This training, offered twice yearly, features a number of trainers and coaches, including C.J. Larkin, JD, MA; Charlene Berquist, PhD; Charlotte “Charlie” Nolan; Heather Blades, MA; Gloria Galanes, PhD; Jim Meyer, PhD; Jason Lessmeier, JD; Tara Forrester, MS, PLPC; and many others. By blending classroom learning, demonstrations, discussion, and role play activities the training immerses participants in the subject. Participants reported that this structure, along with the diverse perspectives offered by various coaches and presenters, made for a high-quality training experience:
- “The mediation role plays and coaching were extremely helpful! Seeing and experiencing the different styles helped my identify my own style and recognize that the differences are good.”
- “I loved so much about this training! CJ Larkin was an excellent presenter. She made things fun and interesting, which really helped during those long days. The role playing was also extremely beneficial. I loved hearing from the different perspectives and experiences along the way.”
- “This training has prepared me to get my feet wet in mediation and has given me an understanding of different styles, personalities, and perspectives.”
The next mediation training will be offered in October 2014 (specific dates TBA). For more information visit http://www.missouristate.edu/cdr/UpcomingTrainings.html /
