In late May CDR Associate Director Heather Blades participated in Missouri State University’s Quality Initiative Project (QIP).
Through the project faculty and staff applied to be reviewers and, over the course of four days, assessed student writing from across the disciplines to understand students’ understanding and integration of the University’s Public Affairs mission and diversity goals.
The CDR aims to exemplify the University’s Public Affairs mission by integrating students into community programs. These experiences provide leadership opportunities and exposure to diverse populations while allowing students to apply their knowledge of conflict theory and skills to pressing community problems. Through participation in the QIP CDR staff not only gained a better of understanding of how students connect Public Affairs to their coursework across campus, but also connected with faculty and staff to share ideas on how to help students gain the full benefits that the Public Affairs mission offers.
The CDR was pleased to support the QIP effort and will implement the new strategies learned at the event to enhance students’ understanding of and experience with the Public Affairs mission this fall.
