Tablets are excellent computing devices – they’re versatile, portable, and quite practical. But did you know that tablets, just like laptops and desktops, are vulnerable to hackers and malicious software? Follow these tips to put a lock on your information throughout the year:
Use a password – Protect your tablet with a personal identification number (PIN) or password. Passwords should always be long, strong, and unique.
Set a timeout – Tablets are easily lost, stolen, or misplaced. Configure your device to “lock” and require re-authentication if left unattended for more than 20 minutes.
Keep your tablet up to date – Stay current on all updates for applications and software. Mobile devices are a growing target for malware, but regularly updating your device will help to reduce vulnerability.
If you are not sure how to do any of the above, consult your device’s original or online manual.
