Students in the collaborative engineering program at Missouri State have formed a student chapter of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE). NSPE is a professional engineering society that represents engineers of all engineering disciplines and is focused on professionalism, ethics, licensing, and similar issues related to the practice of engineering.
Since NSPE represents all disciplines of engineering it is a good fit for all of the students in the collaborative engineering program, regardless of their planned engineering major.
The chapter petitioned the NSPE national organization and secured the Ozark Chapter of Missouri Society of Professional Engineers support for approval. The Chapter is also recognized by the Missouri State Student Government Association (SGA).
The chapter held their first official meeting on Thursday, March 19, 2009. Student officers for the 2009-2010 academic year are President Tim Schoenhoff, Vice-President Ariel Domingo’, Secretary Jared Davis, and Treasurer Mike Wilson. In addition to the students in attendance, Mr. Tony Gott, President-Elect of the Ozark Chapter of MSPE, and Mr. Fred Palmerton, representing MSPE attended the meeting as did Dr. Bob Egbert, Professor of Electrical Engineering in the cooperative engineering program and faculty advisor for the NSPE Student chapter, and Dr. Doug Carroll, Director of the cooperative engineering program.
