Dr. Tamera Jahnke, dean of the College of Natural and Applied Sciences, recently received another year of funding for the Missouri Innovation Academy through College Access Challenge Grants.
This funding assists in paying for the expense of running the academy and keeps tuition costs low and affordable. The academy is held for three weeks on the Missouri State University (MSU) campus. It is designed to encourage and excite high school students to further explore and pursue postsecondary degrees in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and business fields.
“The Missouri Innovation Academy is an opportunity for students in high school to experience university life for three weeks during the month of June. By the end of the three weeks students have designed a new invention and understand the science and engineering of the new innovation,” said Jahnke. “In addition they have developed a business and marketing plan for this product to take to market. This is a great way to boost economic development in the state of Missouri.”
