Summer is truly here and the heat has arrived.
In addition to the many summer classes offered within CNAS there are so, so many activities happening. Les Reid, Jorge Rebaza and Xingping Sun are hosting 9 NSF REU students from around the country this summer. I met them briefly on Monday and look forward to having lunch with the group in the near future. We have three visiting scientists/mathematicians on campus this summer – two in computer science from China and one in mathematics from Brazil. If you would like to meet our visitors – please contact Anita Liu or Ken Vollmar in computer science and Xingping Sun in mathematics. We also have 27 high school students on campus from around the state participating in the Missouri Innovation Academy. These students have visited Brewer Science this week and are not developing plans for their own innovations. Their final presentations will be on Friday morning, June 28 from 10:00 AM –noon in Glass Hall 237 or on Saturday morning, June 29 from 10:00 AM –noon in Glass Hall 102. You are welcome to come and listen!
I have signed many, many PAF’s for students to work in your research labs so I know that the activity levels on campus are high in CNAS!!!
I have seen the enrollments for all CNAS internship courses and it appears that there a many students participating in outstanding internships this summer!
CNAS News – http://news.missouristate.edu/tag/cnas/
(If you would like to submit a news item – please send it to me or to your department. You just need to send the facts. There are news writers and they will contact you if they need more information.)
SOAR started this week and will continue throughout the summer. I have the opportunity to welcome each group of students and their parents during the first day of orientation.
You are invited to participate in the Summer 2013 commencement ceremony to be held on Friday, August 2 at 1:00 pm in JQH Arena. In order to facilitate your participation, the University will assume the cost of renting your gown. Our contract allows each participant to keep his or her cap and hood for use in future commencement ceremonies. If you plan to participate in the Summer 2013 commencement, please complete and return the faculty regalia order form. (Please pass this on to newer faculty as they may not have received this information and I don’t want to exclude anyone.) The form can be found at the following link: http://www.missouristate.edu/assets/commencement/2013SU_Faculty_Regalia_Order_Form.pdf
You can send your completed form by campus mail, email (reply to jcspinabella@missouristate.edu in the Office of Enrollment Services) or it can be faxed to 836-5992. You will receive a confirmation via email from Julie Spinabella.
The deadline for ordering faculty regalia is June 14, 2013. We cannot process late requests. If you have questions, please call Julie Spinabella (Ext. 6-4329).
Regalia will be available at MSU Bookstore beginning Monday, July 29 through Thursday, August 1.
You can keep this regalia and march with faculty at the new student convocation on Sunday, 18 at 2:00 pm. The faculty will gather at 1:00 pm in Hammons Student Center. I look forward to seeing you at both events!
