Art and Design Events
From October 27 to November 14, the Student Exhibition Center will feature the All Student Competitive Exhibition, a juried competition from the Art Club of the Art and Design Department. Local artist Brad Noble will judge work submitted by students in Studio Art, and cash prizes will be awarded during the First Friday Reception on November 6 from 6:00 to 10:00 PM. Regular viewing hours are 1:00 to 5:00 PM on Tuesdays through Saturdays. The “Visiting From Qingdao, China: Daqing Zhang and Yake Xu” exhibit is on display at the Art and Design Gallery through Friday, November 20. The Art and Design Gallery is located at 333 E. Walnut and its hours are 10 AM to 6 PM Tuesday through Thursday, 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Friday, and 12:00 to 6:00 PM on Saturday. Communication Events
The Campus Conflict Workshop session “Coping With Bullying in the Workplace” will be held on Wednesday, November 18 from 11:50 AM to 12:40 PM in Plaster Student Union room 312A. Dr. Stephanie Norander of the Communication Department will discuss bullying behaviors, techniques for dealing with bullying, and prevention strategies. The Campus Conflict Workshop Series is sponsored by the Center for Dispute Resolution. Borders Books on 3300 S. Glenstone is hosting readings and performances by students of the English and Music Departments on Friday, November 20 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM to celebrate the release of the latest issue of the Moon City Review. Media, Journalism and Film Events
The Ozarks News Journal is a ten-week news magazine program that airs on Sundays from 12:00 to 12:30 PM on KOZK (broadcast channel 21) and is rebroadcast throughout the week at 11:00 AM and 11:00 PM on Mediacom Connections channel 22. This half-hour program concentrates on public affairs issues in Springfield and Greene County and is the culmination of the work of broadcast journalism students, Chief Engineer Paul Katona, and Professor Kevin Swift. Airings in November include the 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th. The University Film Series Fact and Fiction: The Truth Behind Classic Cinema
continues in November with two films. All showings, both at the Moxie Cinema and the Plaster student Union Theater, are free and open to the public.
Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse
is a documentary piece chronicling the making of Apocalypse Now

Werner Herzog’s masterpiece Fitzcarraldo
will be shown at the Moxie Cinema on Wednesday, November 18 at 7:00 p.m., and at the Plaster Student Union Theater on Monday, November 23 at 7:00 p.m.Summary from the Film Series web site:

The Multilingual Film Festival concludes in November with “Le Grand Voyage” which will be shown on November 12 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Craig 206. Summary from netflix.com:

The Missouri State University Concert Chorale will hold two Sunday concerts in November. Each concert is free and open to the public. The first concert is Sunday, November 1 at 7:00 p.m. at National Avenue Christian Church on 1515 S. National in Springfield. The Missouri State University Symphony Orchestra will perform on Tuesday, November 3 from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts. This concert will also feature the Lafayette High School String Orchestra from St. Louis, who will perform a joint

The Music Department is proud to host the Traditional Music of China concert, which will be held on Wednesday, November 4 from 7:30 to 9:30 PM in Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts. This free concert will feature performers and students on traditional Chinese instruments, including Sun Li, on the guzheng; Meng Lei, on the dizi; and Zhang Ruirui, on the erhu. November will feature two Faculty Recitals to highlight the work of our talented Music Department faculty members. On Thursday, November 19, pianists Hye-Jung Hong and Wei-Han Su will perform at Ellis Recital Hall (217B) from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. On Monday, November 23, mezzo-soprano Paula Patterson and pianist Peter Collins will hold a recital at Ellis Recital Hall from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m., performing Musical Settings of Goethe’s Mignon Songs by Schubert, Schumann, Wolf, and other composers. “Changing Shades: A Fall Dance Concert” will be performed at Coger Theatre on October 30-31 at 7:00 PM and on November 1 at 2:30 PM. “Changing Shades” is a student-choreographed dance concert performed by students of the Composition III class.
