Sunday, June 10 marks the start of the Jane A. Meyer Carillon Series, which will feature one monthly concert from June to September. University Carillonist Jeremy Chesman will perform at the carillon, located on the grounds of the Duane G. Meyer Library. The performance starts at 7:00 p.m. After the performance, you can meet the artist on the library’s front steps and ascend the carillon tower for a tour of the playing cabin.
The Jane A. Meyer Carillon was dedicated on April 13, 2002. Ken and Jane Meyer, longtime friends of the University and supporters of the arts, donated funds to purchase 48 bronze bells and for the construction of the 2.5 million-pound, 140-foot tall structure. Royal Eijsbouts, a prestigious bell foundry in The Netherlands, provided and installed the bells, cast-iron clappers, and keyboard. In addition to its use for the Carillon Series and other special concerts, the Jane A. Meyer Carillon plays the standard Westminster chime sequence every 15 minutes, with the first of the hourly bells marking the exact start of each hour.
The next Carillon Series concert is July 8 and features carillonist Robin Austin. Visit the Carillon Series page to learn more about the performers and the carillon.
