9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Hill Hall 314
MINUTES
Dean Hough called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.
Attending: David Hough, Paul Ajuwon, Deanne Camp, Denise Cunningham, Cory Fearing, Kim Finch, Annice McLean, Jim Meyer, Debra Price, Eric Sheffield, Michele Smith, Becky Swearingen, Cindy Hail
- Draft Policy & Request Form: Program Development, Start-up, Redesign, Recruitment & Retention Support
The dean discussed the changes to the document requested by FAC which were to change ten (10) years to five (5) years and add “Source of Funding” under History of Prior Support & Outcomes and add FAC, Budget Committee and COE Dean review / approval dates at the bottom of the form. The document will be presented to faculty for approval at the January 22nd meeting. Denise Cunningham will present it.
- COE Student Travel Policy
Eric Sheffield asked if funds for student travel could be transferred to individual departments. FAC discussed the current COE student travel policy. The dean explained that funds for this are not designated; the money comes from the Program Support budget. After discussing the current policy, the dean was asked to make the following changes to the policy per FAC:
– Add a request form to the document
– Change the maximum request to $400 per student per trip
– The request would come from the faculty member(s) and approved by the department head before being forwarded to the dean
– Information from the student would include the name of the event and cost for membership, travel, etc.
– It was agreed to follow the Dean’s current practice until a revised version is approved
- Staff Hiring Plan Update
Becky Swearingen reported that the subcommittee members are April Babington, Sally Buckner, Judy Campbell, Leslie Champagne, Juli Panza, and Teresa Steele. Travis Marler will also be asked to be on the subcommittee. They will meet next Monday at 2:00 p.m. Becky will give an update at the January 22nd faculty meeting.
- Hiring Plan Revision Subcommittee Update
Jim Meyer reported that they will meet after the first of the year.
- COE FY17 Academic Affairs Program Expansion Proposal (David Hough)
Before discussing the proposal, the dean stated a disclaimer that this does not obligate anyone to do anything. The request for this proposal (1.2 million is available) came from the Provost and any cost center could apply. Since it was short notice, the dean and others, including Gilbert Brown, wrote the proposal and submitted it. The idea for the proposal was a result of discussions from the October 2nd faculty meeting and CAEP. If funded, there would be conversations with everyone. The dean is going to discuss the idea along with the MILE program with people he will be meeting with on Thursday and Friday in Kansas City.
- Legacy of Learning Events
Legacy of Learning events will be held in Kansas City and St. Louis. COE alumni, retired and current teachers attend the events. Michele Smith discussed an idea that came from a meeting to re-brand the event and add “for the future”. The event would be called “Creating a Legacy of Learning for the Future”. It would not be added to the current COE logo. They would like the names of graduates from the last five years and the BTA students and start a mentor / mentee match. Per discussion with FAC, this configuration could be expanded to include faculty as mentors as well. FAC was very supportive of the changes.
- Photography – Commencement
Cindy Hail informed LC that Life Touch will be taking pictures at commencement. There is no charge to take the pictures, but Life Touch will email links to graduates with information about ordering / pricing. Life Touch has offered to do this at graduation receptions. The college deans will be able to add a congratulatory message for the graduates which will be included with the email from Life Touch. Everyone thought this was a good idea so Sharon will get more information on what needs to be done for our reception and work with Leslie.
- Videos
Eric Sheffield asked about help with videos. Elijah Kleinsmith has been hired as a student worker in the dean’s office and is excellent with technology and videos. He was asked to send an email to the dean with what he would like to have done. The dean would then discuss it with Elijah. Elijah has already been assigned a couple of other videos to work on.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:40 a.m.
