Invitation to 31st Showcase forTeaching and Learning – August 17, 2016
From Dr. Beth Hurst, Professor, Reading/Literacy:
As our college representative on the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning Advisory Council, would like to personally invite you to attend the 31st Showcase on Teaching and Learning on August 17th. Showcase is a wonderful mini-conference on teaching held the Wednesday before Fall semester begins and provides a lot of great sessions and interesting discussions with other faculty. I have been attending for many years and really enjoy it. It includes breakfast and a great lunch, which I know our college always enjoys.
Our keynote speaker is Dr. Thomas Tobin from Northeastern Illinois University. His presentation on “Universal Design for Learning That You Can Do Today” will provide some practical strategies for making our courses more accessible and inclusive to all students. Dr. Tobin is an internationally-recognized speaker and author who advocates for the educational rights of people with disabilities and those from disadvantaged backgrounds. He has written on topics related to quality in distance education, especially copyright, evaluation of teaching practice, academic integrity, and accessibility/universal design for learning. (http://thomasjtobin.com/)
Morning sessions will be focused on a variety of topics and presented by our faculty, including some from COE. During these sessions, faculty will share innovative approaches they have used to enrich their teaching. This year, faculty who have received FCTL Curriculum Innovation Awards will present an interactive poster session of their teaching practice highlighting best practices and sharing ideas with other faculty. (http://www.missouristate.edu/fctl/31stShowcaseonTeachingandLearning.htm)
This event begins at 8:00 with a plenary session and continental breakfast and will close with lunch and Dr. Tobin’s presentation in the PSU Ballroom. All sessions will be in PSU, 3rd floor, and the entire event will conclude by 1:00. And the breakfast and lunch are free!
Please RSVP for Showcase by calling the FCTL at 836-3059.
