Friday, September 16
Opening Ceremony PSU Theatre Parade of Flags Mariachi Herencia Mexicana
The Opening Ceremony is the Official kick off to our month long celebration at Missouri State University and is an opportunity to invite our community to our campus to meet with our students. The ceremony is free and open to the public and includes a university welcome, parade of flags from Latin America, a Mariachi Concert, and a reception featuring specialty cakes from Latin America. Start time for the event is 7:00 pm in the Plaster Student Union Theatre.
Sunday, September 18 Fiesta Hispana Iglesia Cristiana Casa de Oracion
Fiesta Hispana is an open air concert by our guests from Guadalajara Mariachi Herencia Mexicana and is being co-sponsored by Missouri State University and Iglesia Cristiana Casa de Oración. The event is free and open to the public and begins at 6:00 pm at the church.
Monday, September 19-23 Latino Literature Week (LEAL) Meyer Library
Latino Literature Week is a display of Hispanic Authors and will feature classical writings as well as current pieces. The display is free and open to the public at Meyer Library on the campus of Missouri State University.
Wednesday, September 21 Diversity Dialogue I PSU 308 AB
Latina Power Panel: This dialogue features some of our most prominent Latina alumni and their stories and challenges here at Missouri State and in the community. The program is free and open to the public and begins at 7:00 pm.
Wednesday, September 22 SAC Movie – Maria Full of Grace PSU Theatre
The presentation is a powerful film about the struggles of a young Columbian woman’s journey to the United States. The event is free and open to the public and takes place in the Plaster Student Union Theatre at 9:00 pm.
Thursday, September 22 STEP Conference PSU Theatre
The Student Transition Education Program or STEP Conference is a recruitment program for Hispanic students to teach them about financial aid, admissions, and student life. This year’s event features Mr. Jimmy Cabrera, a nationally recognized motivational speaker who will have sessions for middle school students, high school students, and parents. The event is free and open to the public. The STEP Conference takes place at the Plaster Student Union and begins at 8:30 am.
Friday, September 23 Salsa Night Rincon Latino
This is a public event held at a local restaurant to celebrate the Hispanic Culture. There is a$5.00 cover charge and is open to public.
Sunday, September 25 SAC Movie: Maria Full of Grace PSU Theatre

Monday, September 26 SAC Salsa Magic PSU Ballroom
This event is a magic show sponsored by the Student Activities Council and is free and open to the public. The program begins at 7:00 pm.
Wednesday, September 28 Feria Escolar Crowder College
This is a recruiting event targeted at transfer students and high school students from Southwest Missouri. The program is in a bilingual format and will have sessions for transfer students, high school students and parents. The event takes place at Crowder College in Neosho Missouri and begins at 6:00 pm. The program is sponsored by the Office of Admissions and the Office for Diversity and Inclusion.
Saturday, October 1 Dia de Servicio Iglesia Cristiana Casa de Oracion
This event is a “Day of Service” where members of the church and Missouri State volunteers will perform free service to the community. The event is free and open to the public and begins at 8:00 am.
Wednesday, October 5 Diversity Dialogue II PSU 308 AB
Latin American Adventure: Study Away Student Reflections
This is an open discussion that features presentations from current students who have studied away in Latin America and reflections on what they learned and the cultural competence they gained by participating in a study away program. The Dialogue begins at 7:00 pm in Plaster Student Union Room 308 and is free and open to the public.
Friday, October 7 First Friday QENOTECA
This is a new event in conjunction with the NAACP and the QENOTECA Wine Bar to celebrate First Friday Salsa Style with singing and dancing. The event has a $5.00 donation, which goes towards the NAACP Scholarship fund, and is open to the public.
Monday, October 10 Día de la Raza Sacred Heart
This is a day of celebration in Latin America to celebrate its people. The event is free and open to the public and will be held at Sacred Heart Church and begins at 7:00 pm.
Saturday, October 15 Latino AIDS Awareness Day Sacred Heart
This is the 2nd annual National Latino AIDS Awareness Day to promote awareness about AIDS in the Latino community and services available. The event is free and open to the public and begins at 8:00 am.
Monday, October 17 Closing Ceremony PSU Theatre
Latina Awards & Paco Padilla
This will be the final event for this year’s Hispanic Heritage Month and will have a brief ceremony and a concert featuring Paco Padilla and his band. Paco Padilla is a musician from Springfield Sister City in Mexico – Tlaquepaque. Also featured are the group Luna Sureste and Sheila Rios. The concert will feature traditional and contemporary Mexican music. The Ceremony is free and open to the public and begins at 7:00 pm in the Plaster Student Union Theatre.
