What could be more fun than volunteering a few days at the Discovery Center this summer?!!! Training slots are limited, but there will be more trainings added this summer, so get on the list if you can’t participate next Tuesday. (NOTE: this exhibit has been touring nationally and was a feature exhibit at the Smithsonian last winter – in other words, participation would be great to put on your resume!)
Missouri State Students, Faculty and Staff are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to participate in this collaborative effort to increase cultural competency in our community.

Discovery Center of Springfield is excited to host the exhibit RACE: Are We So Different? May 22-September 9, 2012. Missouri State University is a presenting sponsor for this seminal event.
RACE: Are We So Different?, developed by the American Anthropological Association in collaboration with the Science Museum of Minnesota, is the first national exhibition to tell the stories of race from the biological, cultural, and historical points of view. Combining these perspectives offers an unprecedented look at race and racism in the United States.
Discovery Center is asking you to consider serving as a volunteer at Discovery Center during the time the exhibit is here. Our first training session is planned for Tuesday, May 15, 2012 5-7pm at Discovery Center of Springfield. This training session will include Discovery Center training and additional training from Leslie Anderson, Associate Professor of Counseling. She will be training volunteers, staff and community folks like you on aspects of the RACE Exhibit and discussion points. This will be very important in how the exhibit is perceived by the public and this training could have an impact on how you discuss this exhibit with your friends, business associates and co-workers.
Please RSVP to contact Alison Pettit, Museum Manager, at apettit@discoverycenter.org or call her at 417-862-9910 Ext 709 is you are able to attend this training session. Additional training session dates to be determined soon.
