On May, 9th, the CNAS Diversity and Inclusion Committee had the first All-CNAS Picnic. Approximately 100 students, staff, and faculty attended. This event will be continued every year. One of the student members of the CNAS Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Manelich Luna sang and played guitar. Dr. Gigi Saunders’ husband, Neil, also sang and played for the crowd. The music was enjoyed by all. Items from the MSU Bookstore were given as door prizes which included: Bear Sweatshirt blanket, Missouri State travel tug, Missouri State umbrella , Missouri State tote bag, and many Missouri State decals for the cars. The committee greatly appreciates the support of the bookstore and other university offices in making such events successful.
Also, the CNAS Diversity Committee is working to get donations for a CNAS multicultural scholarship.
Requirement for CNAS multicultural scholarship include:
- An essay (not to exceed two pages or 1,000 characters for the Web) that describes the student’s academic achievement and leadership in diverse organizations, environments and activities and demonstrates commitment to inclusive excellence.
- 2.75 overall grade point average. We encourage transfer students to apply.
- Students must be in a program leading to a CNAS degree and remain in the program to be eligible for renewal of the scholarship.
The 50th Anniversary Celebration of the March on Washington was a real treat. It was very well attended. The 28th marked the kickoff of a year of celebrations regarding racial diversity. The last event will be in July with the 50th Anniversary of the signing of the Voters’ Rights Act of 1963. It should be a good year for the committee with a chance to tie into community activities.
