Veterans Day 2013
Friday, November 8
8:00 – 9:30 AM – Veterans Recognition Breakfast in PSU Ballroom. Professor Bill Piston, MSU History Department, will speak on “Fighting for Both Sides: Missourians in the American Civil War.” Please call (417) 836-5636, MSU Career Center, to reserve seats by 4 November. MSU students, staff, faculty, and community guests may also reserve by logging on to http://alliance.missouristate.edu . Breakfast is free to all veterans and their guests.
The following activities are all free and open to the public.
9:45 – 10:15 AM – Missouri State’s Canteen. The Hibernotes, the newest mixed (men and women) contemporary A Capella group at Missouri State University, will present a program of patriotic music. Soloists from our outstanding Musical Theatre Program will also sing pieces from contemporary musicals including Civil War, Parade, and Ghost.
10:30 – 11:10 AM – “Taps” Project. The Missouri State University Band will again be honoring our veterans. This event features 50 to 60 uniformed trumpeters spread out across campus to assigned positions and then a “cascading effect” as each trumpet player responds three notes later to the one preceding him. The performance opens on the steps of McDonald Arena where the ensemble will perform a patriotic piece arranged by Dr. John Prescott. Military cadets will then escort the trumpets to their assigned area. At 11:00am the first player will set the performance in motion. 11:30 – 12:30 – Panel Discussion. “Minorities in Missouri Civil War” sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Programs.
Veterans attending campus events on November 8th are invited to park in Visitors Lot 13 or Lot 29 on the corner of National and Monroe, one-half block from Plaster Student Union. Transportation from the parking lots to PSU will be provided from 7:15 to 8:15 AM, return transportation will be available at 11:20 AM. For those in need of assistance, a drop-off location and personal assistance can be arranged by calling (417) 836-4825.
