The Alliance for Veterans would like to invite all faculty, staff and students veterans, along with their guests, to attend the Veterans Day events on Friday, November 8th. This year’s theme is a historical look at the unique position of Missouri during the American Civil War. Events include complimentary recognition breakfast and a presentation by Dr. William Piston, noted author and Professor of History at Missouri State University. The breakfast and presentation will be from 8:00 am – 9:30 am in the PSU Ballroom.
Please register online at http://alliance.missouristate.edu/ for the breakfast by Tuesday, November 5th. The breakfast is open to all veterans and their guest with the following activities open to the public.
The breakfast and presentation will be followed by:
- Missouri State University Canteen Show at 9:45am featuring a live performance by the Hibernotes in the PSU Food Court.
- A concert by the Civil War Ensemble and Trumpet Choir at 10:30am on the McDonald Arena steps.
- The Taps Project at Missouri State University at 11:00am following the concert on the McDonald Arena steps. Trumpeters across campus will play the 24 notes of military taps to signalize remembrance of the fallen.
- Veterans Day Panel Discussion, “Voices of the Civil War in Missouri: A Talk with Veterans” from 11:30am to 12:30pm in Plaster Student Union Room 315. Panel includes Dr. William Piston and Dr. Stephen Trobisch. Co-hosted by Office of Multicultural Programs and the Alliance for Veterans Committee.
