October is the month to celebrate, not just for the longed-for Fall Pumpkin Spice Latte’s, but for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans*, Queer, Ally (LGBTQA) History Month! Wednesday, October 1st marks the start of our queerest moment of best known plays and musicals of the 20th century performed with a special and unique TWIST – known as The Miscast Cabaret.
Of course the “queerest” time to highlight LGBTQA organizations and resources is through our electrifying Annual Kick-Off event. As queerified as National Coming Out Day is on Oct. 11, we ask the MSU campus and greater Springfield community to help us honor Spirit Day, by wearing purple to support the LGBTQA community as well as Spectrum’s Ally Week Table, an event in which allies against LGBT bullying show support by signing a pledge.
This queeriful year, marks the 25th anniversary of The Normal Heart, a theatre production that put Springfield, MO in the national spotlight. The Springfield Contemporary Theatre will commemorate this queerfully dramatic play by hosting The Normal Heart: Remembering 25 Years Ago & MSU 25 Years Later. Spectrum, Lambda Alliance, and Advocates applauds these efforts and wants all their allies to support the queertastic Big Gay Talent Show, a night of fun showcasing the many talents of our MSU students!
