Dr. Brian Weaver, Assistant Professor of Biology, knows how important research is to a successful program at any institution. As a relative newcomer to Missouri State University, Dr. Weaver says he chose this institution for many reasons; an important one, he said, was “that the University and the Biology department provide an excellent environment to work, where both teaching and research are valued and supported in the training of students.”

Currently Dr. Weaver is doing research investigating the pathways by which immune cells respond to both pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory stimuli during microbial infections.  Along with that Dr. Weaver teaches courses in Microbiology, Immunology, Medical Microbiology, and General Biology at Missouri State.

Recently Dr. Weaver established the Microbiology/Immunology Research Fund. Dr. Weaver said he hopes this fund will “assist faculty and students in the Biology department in performing basic research in Microbiology/Immunology and aid them in acquisition of external grant support and research publications.”

Dr. Weaver doesn’t do his research alone, and he established this fund with the undergraduate and graduate students that work with him in mind. It is his hope that, by establishing this fund, the students who work with him not only successfully complete their research projects but have all the necessities at their disposal to do so.
