On December 18, 2013, thanks to the incredible generosity of donors and friends of Missouri State University like you, the MSU Foundation was able to cap off the year with the announcement of over $8 million in new gift commitments. The gifts, designated for various areas of the university, will significantly impact recruitment, academics, student life, scholarships, and athletics.
Following the passage by students of a new recreation fee to build new recreation facilities, improve current facilities, and enhance student recreation experiences, local businessman and philanthropist Bobby Allison made a significant gift commitment towards those new recreational facilities. In recognition of his gift, three new facilities will be named in his and his mother’s honor. The new Betty and Bobby Allison North Stadium will host lacrosse and field hockey, the new Betty and Bobby Allison Sand Volleyball Courts will be located southwest of Hammons Student Center, and the new Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium will host soccer, track, and Campus Recreation events. The Jack E. Weimer Family also made a significant gift towards the Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium and the press box in the facility will be named in their honor.
The Foundation was also able to announce $2.25 million in gifts towards the new Student Admissions and Success Center, which will serve admissions and recruitment efforts at the University. This new facility will be located at the southeast corner of National Avenue and Bear Boulevard and will be the new entrance to campus for visitors. An additional $1 million in gifts were made to complete the Bears and Lady Bears Basketball locker rooms in JQH Arena. Over 150 acres of untouched timbered land north of Springfield, which will be known as “The Woodlands”, was given to the Darr School of Agriculture by Betty Jeanne Wood Turoff for conservation research purposes, and multiple new scholarships were established to benefit students at the University.
