Those who love the performing arts join the community of Springfield and many others in southwest Missouri in mourning the passing of Juanita Kathleen Hammons. For more than two decades, the cultural life of our region has been enhanced by an amazing variety of entertainment at her beautiful namesake venue, Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts.
Mrs. Hammons was a passionate philanthropist, joining her husband, the late John Q. Hammons, in supporting not only the arts but also education, healthcare and sports.
She was very happy to learn that Juanita K. Hammons Hall would present a wide variety of performances, because she was a fan of many kinds of entertainment. In considering the effect the venue would have on our community, Mrs. Hammons said “What will be so wonderful is the advantage the Hall offers to children. It will provide such great opportunities for them. It presents lots of advantages to lots of people.”
Because of Mrs. Hammons’ desire to make a difference in the life of Springfield and the surrounding communities, many, many people of all ages have experienced the unparalleled thrill of live music, theatre, dance and other art forms on the Juanita K. Hammons Hall stage. Her generosity and support have enriched our lives, and we are forever grateful.
