Updated M-274 Handbook for Employers: Guidance for Completing Form I-9

Employees who work with the Form I-9 should review the updated M-274 handbook.

USCIS published the updated M-274, Handbook for Employers: Guidance for Completing Form I-9 (PDF, 5.36 MB). The Handbook for Employers provides employers with detailed guidance for completing Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification. This version dated Jan. 22, 2017, replaces the previous version. It reflects revisions to Form I-9, which was revised on Nov. 14, 2016.

The Handbook for Employers:

  • Details how to properly complete the revised Form I-9
  • Captures policy and regulatory changes since 2013
  • Is written in plain language, so that it is easier to understand
  • Includes a streamlined questions and answers section
  • Features updated tables, new figures, and more current sample documents
  • Explains guidance regarding automatic extensions for certain Employment Authorization Documents

Save for your Future – Deferred Compensation (457b)

The Office of Human Resources is sponsoring a visit by our ICMA-RC representative on:

Tuesday, February 27, 8:30-3:00 in Plaster Student Union Room 310.

ICMA-RC is the University’s Section 457 (Deferred Compensation) plan provider.

Ms. Deborah Taylor will be available to meet individually with employees who already have a 457 account as well as employees who have questions about such accounts or about starting an investment program with ICMA-RC under 457.  Employees currently in the program are asked to bring their new account access user id and password, if they have set up account via Deferred Comp. website:  www.modeferredcomp.org.  Thirty-minute appointments are being scheduled for interested employees.

Employees who want to meet with Ms. Taylor can use the hyperlink to sign up: State of Missouri Online Scheduling this is used for an appointment time or to confirm attendance at the presentation meeting due to limited seating.  (Remember to go ALL THE WAY through the registration to get to the CONFIRMATION #).

Supervisors please post for those without immediate access to a computer

Changes to the PAF (Personnel Action Form)

New Classification and Activity Code Selections Available on PAF

Section II “Classification”, there is a new Non-employee section, the selections are either Adjunct Faculty or University Associate.

  • Adjunct Faculty are defined in the Faculty Handbook.  Section 3.5.7. Adjunct Faculty states: “Adjunct Faculty are those individuals who offer educational experiences to students of the University but who have no contract with the University. The title is honorary, although the Adjunct Faculty member may receive an honorarium. Adjunct faculty may also receive a University ID, e-mail account, and library privileges”.  Adjunct Faculty are not employees of the University.
  • University Associates are not employees of the University and have some relationship to a sponsoring department but do not fit the definition of Adjunct Faculty. University Associates may also receive a University ID, e-mail account, and library privileges.
  • New Adjunct Faculty and University Associates will be approved by the normal PAF approval process and will undergo a background check.

Section VII “Salary Information”, Activity Code added to FOAP

  • Certain grants are set up with Activity codes as part of the FOAP used to fund salaries of employees whose positions are paid by the grant.  Please ignore the Activity field when entering the FOAP if the FOAP does not include an Activity code.
