As many of you have already noticed, there are some rather significant errors in the Excel portion of the current edition of our application books. I have begun compiling a list of these errors, and the current version is attached – it will also be posted to the Faculty Resources website. If you find additional errors in any of the books you feel should be added to this list, please let me know.
For the record, the publisher has a new author for Excel and we will be moving to the newest edition of the application books for fall. It’s to be hoped there will be fewer errors in those copies.
I had quit updating the blog because it seemed that it wasn’t being used, but I’ve been asked to revive it, so I’m doing so now. I will be updating it today.
You may want to check out this video from Missouri State’s YouTube collection: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Rj57nwty3Y&sdig=1
This video specifically addresses security issues on campus and contains tips on how to keep your computer safe – I would recommend this for all of our students, as it’s good information to know.
Independent sources tell me that Myitlab access code packets are available at the campus bookstore as a stand-alone item for $5, and at the Student Book Exchange for FREE (while supplies last in both situations). This is a MAJOR bargain and if you are interested in using the program at all – even as an option – this would be a great choice for your students.

If you or your students use Twitter, you may wish to share the following news story with them:

Missouri State has its own Twitter account, as do I. Just an FYI!

You may already get notices about these, but in the event you do not – Microsoft offers FREE webcasts and podcasts, among other things, for educators. One you might be particularly interested in, in light of the discussion of our discussion yesterday, is the Overview of Live@edu (see http://www.educationwebcasts.com/Webcast.aspx?i=3441; if that time is not convenient, there are other times available, I believe). Remember, the recommendation to the IT committee has not yet been made, and then a decision has to be made by administration, but I do anticipate this happening later this semester.
For a list of the all the webcasts Microsoft offers for educators, see http://www.educationwebcasts.com/.
The Pre-Test links on the Learning home page are now available and point to the correct test. Please let me know if you have any questions or problems.

Something I forgot to include in yesterday’s materials was the Provost’s suggested wording for several course policies. One in particular that I omitted was the NEW Emergency Response Statement, which states:
Emergency Response Syllabi Statement
Students who require assistance during an emergency evacuation must discuss their needs with their professors and Disability Services. If you have emergency medical information to share with me, or if you need special arrangements in case the building must be evacuated, please make an appointment with me as soon as possible.
For additional information students should contact the Office of Disability Services, 836-4192 (PSU 405), or Larry Combs, Interim Assistant Director of Public Safety and Transportation at 836-6576.
For further information on Missouri State University’s Emergency Response Plan, please refer to the following web site: http://www.missouristate.edu/safetran/erp.htm.
You can find other suggestions for Course Syllabi/Policy Statements at http://www.missouristate.edu/provost/syllabi.htm. Please make sure you add the Emergency Response Statement to your syllabi for this semester – it is currently missing from the sample syllabus on the CD distributed yesterday, but I will update the sample that will be posted to the Faculty Resources site.

As of 3:00 PM this afternoon, I have only ONE instructor who has indicated that he is able to attend the 9:00 meeting tomorrow. For this reason, I am CANCELLING the 9:00 AM meeting and will NOT be in Glass Hall at that time.
To repeat, we will have only ONE orientation meeting, and that will be at 2:00 PM in Glass Hall room 340. Please make every effort to attend this meeting, as I have a number of things to discuss with you that directly impact this course.
Thank you for understanding. I hope to see you all (with the exception of those who have already advised me they are unable to attend) tomorrow afternoon.
