Byron Smith, ’99, is returning to Springfield on February 7 to screen and discuss his work on the Emmy winning Netflix series, House of Cards. The event is free and open to the public. Smith graduated from MJF in media production in 1999. He worked briefly for KY3 and then went to study editing at the American Film Institute. While there, he won the prestigious Eddy Award for best Student Editor in the nationwide competition hosted by the Academy of Cinema Editors (ACE).
House of Cards is the acclaimed political thriller and first Netflix original series that stars Kevin Spacey, Francis Underwood and Robin Wright.
Smith will conduct a talk-back session following the screening of an episode from House of Cards. He will also host a master class on the art of editing by dissecting a scene, talking about the process of editing a successful TV series and discussing his work with directors.
