Dr. Gary Rader, Director for Missouri State Online, returned in January from Rio Tercero, Argentina where he met with representatives of IDES (Institución de Enseñanza Superior), a private university, to plan a pilot project between The Office of Citizenship and Service Learning (CASL) at MSU and IDES. Students at both institutions will work collaboratively on a virtual service learning project designed to help both communities deal with common issues of public concern. The pilot project will be featured in a book being jointly written by the Director of Service Learning, Kathy Nordyke, and Dr. Jeanne Strait, a virtual service learning expert from Hamlin University. Missouri State Online has sponsored Dr. Strait for two virtual service learning workshops at MSU. The IDES contact is Professor Mariana Gonzalez, a political scientist, whose students at IDES have been Skyping with Dr. Rader’s political science students at MSU since 2012. The aim of this collaboration is to deepen the relationship between virtual service learning students at MSU and those in Rio Tercero, Argentina.
