Survey results indicate overall satisfaction
Missouri State University participates in the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), a web survey used to collect data from students about their experiences in and out of the classroom. The NSSE is administered to first-year and senior undergraduate students. The student responses in 2015 included 1,040 from first-year students and 1,034 from senior undergraduate students.
Missouri State’s NSSE 2015 Reports are available online. These reports contain a lot of useful data in understanding student experiences at Missouri State. The data in the Snapshot report is especially insightful.
The data points for first-year students that I found most compelling include:
- 91 percent rated their overall experience at Missouri State as “good” or “excellent.”
- 93 percent indicated that we encourage contact among students from different backgrounds.
- 94 percent indicated that Missouri State includes diverse perspectives in course discussions or assignments.
- 92 percent indicated that Missouri State emphasized attendance at events that address important social, economic or political issues.
- 97 percent indicated that Missouri State provides opportunities to be involved socially.
- 66 percent indicated that they have taken a course that included a service learning component.
On each of these points, Missouri State students scored high relative to students in comparative institutions. We should be proud of the progress we have made in making our campus a more welcoming environment that encourages students to have unique and diverse learning experiences.
Thanks for all you do for Missouri State!
