As the semester draws to a close, I wanted to update you on two items related to the budget:
- Next Town Hall Meeting – the next Town Hall Meeting will be scheduled for sometime in February 2010, with a panel of deans discussing their preliminary plans for addressing the budget cuts in their colleges.
- Report by Jim Moody – Jim Moody, a legislative consultant and respected long-time state budget analyst, made a presentation to the Council on Public Higher Education (COPHE) last week. I thought you might want to review the content of his presentation. He has several on the James R. Moody and Associates web site. While the specific presentation he used last week is not yet posted, the content is similar to the publications from February and November 2009. I think you will find his analysis both comprehensive and sobering.
The presentation and audio from the November 24, 2009, town hall meeting has been posted online:
This meeting outlined a proposal to reallocate $5.5 million from the University’s budget to absorb the anticipated reduction in Fiscal Year 2011 state appropriations and fund the cost increases that are expected for that fiscal year.
This meeting further clarified options for various personnel-related strategies regarding the budget and discussed several possible changes in how academic programs are delivered.
