Location: PSU 315

The Associate Provost for Student Development and Public Affairs is announcing a call for instructors for two initiatives in fall 2010: Learning Communities and the First-Year Experience, and Service-Learning and the First-Year Experience.
In fall 2010 Missouri State will offer a limited number of Curricular Learning Communities and we are looking for faculty interested in participating. The most common Learning Community configurations include linked courses GEP 101 (course replacing IDS 110), COM 115, and ENG 110. Other course options are welcome, assuming the course combinations are appropriate for entering students. Instructors who participate will receive an additional $500 stipend, participate in faculty development sessions in spring 2010, and work together with other faculty in planning the curriculum to enhance student learning.
We are also looking for ten GEP 101 instructors to incorporate service-learning experiences into their classes. Instructors who participate will receive an additional $500 stipend, participate in four faculty development sessions in spring 2010, receive support from CASL, and more.
If you are interested in learning more about these options, please attend the information meeting. Breakfast will be provided to those who RSVP to firstyearprograms@missouristate.edu by Tuesday, October 13th.
For more information about these two opportunities, please download the flyers. Questions? Call Mike Wood at 836-8343.

Nominated for 8 Academy Awards and winner of two, Apocalypse Now is one of Francis Ford Coppola’s greatest films. At the height of the Vietnam War, Captain Willard is sent by the U.S. Army to carry out a mission that officially “does not exist.” His mission is to seek out and “eliminate” a mysterious Green Beret Colonel, Walter Kurtz. This decorated Colonel has crossed into Cambodia and is operating as a free-agent completely outside the chain of command. Traveling up the river, Captain Willard leaves all vestiges of civilization and sanity behind as he travels into the “heart of darkness” that lies at the center of this American classic. This is the original theatrical release. Francis Ford Coppola—USA—1979—153 mins.
University Film Series funded by the Office of the Provost and the College of Arts & Letters
