From the Faculty Senate Chair
The deadline for college councils and committees to send curricular proposals to the Faculty Senate office is November 18. This will be the last group of proposals going out for challenge this semester.
The next Faculty Senate meeting is scheduled for November 12 at 3:30 p.m. in PSU 315 (please note the room change). The Senate will be considering several actions, including increased compensation for the new two-credit GEP 101 course and a revision of CASL guidelines to include 100-level classes. Curricular proposals under consideration include the History for Teachers Graduate Certificate and the BS in Facility Management. Senate will also be considering an appeal to proposed changes in the MAT program.
Rebecca Woodard, Faculty Senate Chair-elect, and I recently attended the Missouri Association of Faculty Senates. Four key issues surfaced during our discussions with other Senate representatives from across the state: 1) F + 1 health benefits, 2) concealed weapons on campus, 3) online course ownership, and 4) the proliferation of “Best Practices” documents. In the next issue of the Communiqué, I will share more about each of these issues and the conversations happening at the state level.
Have a good week–
Margaret Weaver
