Library Instruction Sessions
Vast changes in information access have led to unique challenges for both students and teachers. Librarians can help instructors with the development of course-related assignments, customized research assistance, and in-class presentations all utilizing library resources. Let us show you how we can increase student understanding of the library research processes from traditional print resource tools to the newest electronic resource tools. To request library instruction for your classes, visit the Missouri State library website.
Historian & Lady Bears Coach to Reflect on First Champions in Women’s Collegiate Hoops
Date: Thursday, February 16
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Location: Meyer Library Auditorium (Room 101)
Historian Julie Byrne will speak on the Immaculata College Mighty Macs, the subject of a 2011 feature film. Former Missouri State Lady Bears Coach Cheryl Burnett (who once played against the Macs) will respond to the talk.
Byrne is the author of O God of Players, the definitive history of the team that won the 1972, 1973, and 1974 collegiate women’s basketball championships. According to Yale historian Jon Butler, her book “recaptures the lost world of Catholic women’s basketball between 1940 and 1975 where faith, sweat, and even innocence triumphed as America and Catholicism changed uneasily and irrevocably.” Byrne holds the Monsignor Thomas J. Hartman Chair in Catholic Studies at Hofstra University. The title of her talk will be “O God of Players: Ten Years Later.”
Cheryl Burnett coached the Lady Bears from 1987 to 2002, including two NCAA Final Four appearances. As a college basketball player at the University of Kansas, she faced Immaculata on their home court. Burnett currently serves as a Director of Development at Missouri State University.
The Mighty Macs were featured in a 2011 movie praised by Tennessee Lady Vols Coach Pat Summitt and UConn’s Geno Auriemma. Byrne served as a consultant on the movie.

Respondus LockDown Browser
In addition to using Respondus 4.0 to publish exams to Blackboard, it is now possible to publish an exam in Blackboard using a lock-down browser feature. Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment. Students access their Blackboard exam using the Respondus LockDown Browser and will be unable to print, copy, go to another URL, or access areas of the course or other applications. This provides another layer of security for some of the most common types of digital cheating and will also eliminate the accidental or early exiting from online exams which is a common problem with online testing.
For more information about the Respondus LockDown Browser and other online testing strategies contact the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning.
