Citizen Scholar Award Nominations
Nominations due at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 18
The Board of Governors are once again soliciting nominations for the annual Citizen Scholar Award. Since the award was created in 2007, forty-one exceptional students have been chosen to receive this prestigious honor, and the Missouri State University Board of Governors is expecting to recognize six more outstanding students this fall.
If you are a faculty or staff member who knows of a student who excels academically and exemplifies the Public Affairs mission, please download the nomination packet from the Citizen Scholar homepage and submit it to the Office of Student Affairs. Please be sure to read the “Criteria for Consideration and Selection” sheet, and provide sufficient details in your submission.
Recipients will receive an engraved memento and recognition on a plaque in Plaster Student Union, Room 313. In addition, the Citizen Scholars are recognized at a breakfast before the December Board of Governors meeting and at various times throughout the academic year.
Questions or comments may be directed to the Office of Student Affairs in Carrington Hall, Room 200 (836-5526).
Library Launches New Online Meeting Platform
With a growing number of students taking online courses, the MSU Libraries is striving to meet their unique and important information needs. RAGI, the Reference and Government Information unit of the MSU Libraries, is excited to announce an expansion of its established Research Consultation Service. Online and distance education students may now consult online with library faculty members about research projects using an online meeting program called Join.me.
Join.me enables real-time audio conversations using either the Internet or a conference call number. Screen sharing (down to the window level), annotations, recordings, and more are part of this rich online consultation experience.

We’re also developing an asynchronous Blackboard Jumpstart course to earn your Blackboard White Belt anywhere at any time; keep an eye on the Blackboard blog for more information about this exciting opportunity. Last but not least, we’re also offering virtual sessions of our “Ask the Experts: Blackboard” session from 1:30–4:30 p.m. every Friday that the University is open. Visit the Blackboard support website to drop in to our virtual office during those times.
If you have any questions about our synchronous or asynchronous classes or our weekly virtual open session, please contact Ryan Spilken, Technical Trainer, at (417) 836-6056.
