Spotlight on Student Success
Student Success is a primary goal of Missouri State University and particularly the Student Development and Public Affairs office. The SDPA will be providing a series of spotlights in the coming weeks, highlighting Student Success programs in the colleges and departments across campus. If you have a Student Success program or story and would like to be included in this series, please contact Dr. Rachelle Darabi so we can share your story with the campus community.

Archives on the Road
The State Historical Society of Missouri (SHSMO)-Springfield Research Center is located in the Meyer Library’s Special Collections and Archives Department. The Center is now open on our campus. Academic Integrity Days
Tuesday, September 30 – Thursday, October 2
Faculty can be involved by mentioning relevant events in classes to promote attendance. For example:
- Three events are highlighting business ethics, including an ex-convict discussing his mistakes
- The video and print contests will be attractive to those with these artistic/communication skills (works must be submitted ahead of time)
- Since our AI tutorial is down this semester for upgrades, the mock hearings will give students a better understanding of how our policies and procedures work.
- One event will be presented in Chinese
How Can I Structure a Flipped Lesson?
A new program begins Monday, September 22
Everyone has heard about the benefits of student-centered learning and how ‘flipping’ is a perfect example of that pedagogical approach. But is there more to a flipped class than moving lectures online and telling students to complete work before class?
In this Magna 20 Minute Mentor, Barbi Honeycutt from NC State University outlines a four-part flipping structure that works across disciplines. It’s an effective and versatile approach that can easily be replicated and adapted to any discipline.
Also available until Sunday evening is the 20 Minute Mentor, How Can I Enhance Students’ Self-Regulated Learning Skills? with Linda Nilson.
Email the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning for information on how to access the Monday Morning Mentor program.

Blackboard Feature Spotlight: Inline Grading
Inline Grading is an enhancement to how instructors can view and provide feedback to student assignment submissions. The new and improved method allows the instructor to provide this feedback directly in the browser window without needing to save a local copy first.
Feedback options include a commenting tool, highlighter, text selection tool, strikeout tool, even a drawing tool. Once you have saved your feedback, your options for downloading include the original submission attachment as well as the marked up version, saved in PDF format. (Students have these same download options.)
Inline grading does away with the need to download and open each student’s submission and then save and re-upload, making the workflow fast and convenient for everyone involved.
Check out this Blackboard Quick Hit video about inline grading!
