At the July 28th Board of Governors retreat, important changes to policy were approved that will change sick leave for faculty and will extend current benefits provided within the Faculty Handbook pertaining to semester-long paid leave for FLMA categories under special conditions (and after an FLMA analysis has been conducted by HR). These changes were made in order to significantly increase our ability to attract and retain high quality faculty.
First, with respect to the accrual of sick time, all nine-month faculty will begin accruing sick time in accord with the provisions outline in sections 7.2 – 7.5.5.3 of the Employee Handbook. Second, the process and conditions pertaining to granting up to one semester of paid medical leave for faculty currently listed in 6.6.6 of the Faculty Handbook have been extended to include consideration of FLMA categories as cited in section 7.20 of the Employee Handbook.
7.20 references a link on the Provost website which outlines the current nine step process for seeking up to one semester of paid leave.
