Pauline Nugent can describe ways in which she lives every aspect of Public Affairs, both professionally and personally. In her classroom, Pauline integrates lessons on Greek and Roman Mythology with the modern day world in order for students to get an understanding of ancient history culture and how it repeats itself. Pauline believes those who do not know history are destined to repeat it. In addition to her implications on ancient history to the modern world, Pauline approaches the topic of comparative Mythology which guides students to study individual cultures around the world. Through this exploration, commonalities are identified between all of the cultures in order to bring an appreciation of cultural diversity and similarity into her classroom. Pauline extends her involvement in Public Affairs by contributions to the community, both locally and globally. Her local engagement stems from a church in the community where she leads Bible studies that allow her to apply her perspective in order to give others various meanings of the text. She is also a randomly selected member of the Gallup Poll Panel where she is given the opportunity to regularly give her opinion on surveys that pertain to global issues. Lastly, Pauline lives a life where ethics are at the heart of everything she does. She is currently the academic advisor to Phi Kappa Phi where she leads members to practice the Public Affairs mission. Pauline Nugent presents a holistic example of the Public Affairs mission and that is why she is February’s Public Affairs Faculty Spotlight!
