Top 3 Reasons I Chose Missouri State

Hmmm, long time, no blog :) but this has been the longest yet shortest couple weeks in a while. I think all my professors just coordinated and gave me tests all in ONE week. Conspiracy? I think so! Also, I am now…drumroll please…19! Woot woot! Haha not that I was excited or anything.

But back to business…today I’m talking about why I chose Missouri State to spend the next (hopefully) 4 years at!

1. VALUE: To be honest when I first began looking at schools Missouri State was at the bottom of my list, if even on the list. I graduated literally right down the road…I wanted to get as far away as humanly possible from small town Willard! I had my heart dead set on another school a comfortable 3 hours away from here. I really didn’t care about how much it cost…or anything except the fact that I wanted OUT of Springfield. Now this makes it sound like I settled for way less than I wanted in choosing here…so far from the truth. I had just never given MO State a real chance until I looked at the numbers. You’re getting a great education for a great price! And then on top of that all the amazing scholarships that are offered! I urge you if you are even thinking about going to MO State to really think hard about the costs involved. You don’t want to be 35 years old and still paying off your debts from school. I was blessed to be awarded the Board of Governors Scholarships which pays for all my tuition costs. You can check out other scholarships and financial information at the following sites:

2. ATMOSPHERE: Like I mentioned before…MO State was not on my list of schools to even consider. However, after attending an Honors College lunch I couldn’t see myself anywhere else. This university has an amazing campus that is big enough to feel like a big school…but small enough that I do see someone I know pretty much everywhere I go. I love going to basketball games and the atmosphere with the students and fans! The professors here are so willing to help you in any  way they can. It’s just a almost homey feeling and I really love that.

3. LOCATION: As much as I disliked staying close to home…it was another factor that made me choose Springfield. The other school I was looking at was in a small town where the college was basically the town. That really didn’t sit well with me. Springfield really does have a lot to offer. And although I am only about 15 minutes from home I really don’t feel it. MO State is pretty much right in the middle of town and everything you could want to do is close. Downtown is right down the street and everything else is no more than 10 minutes away (more on things to do in Springfield later).

I had my heart pretty well set on another school and didn’t really give anywhere else a chance. I know I’m being repetitive but keep your options open. The school you think is totally wrong for you…could be your best fit!
