Each spring session of the Missouri General Assembly, the Missouri Athletic Trainers’ Association schedules specific dates for state-licensed athletic trainers and athletic training students to meet with their respective state legislators. As part of the ATC 425 Contemporary Topics in Athletic Training course, Dr. Michael Hudson leads the class of graduating athletic training students to Jefferson City to meet with their legislators.
During these meetings, the students educate their legislators about the practice of athletic training, lobby for legislation important to athletic trainers and/or the health care of their patients, and learn more about the legislation process. The athletic training students also get the opportunity to meet with other athletic trainers and students in Missouri to discuss important legislative and professional issues within athletic training.
