Yesterday, the Brian Injury Association of Missouri held a seminar called ‘Sports Concussions: Fact, Fallacies, and New Frontiers’ on the campus of James River Church in Springfield, MO. Several athletic trainers presented sessions at this event. Dr. Allan Liggett, clinical coordinator of the Athletic Training (AT) Program at Missouri State University presented in a session titled ‘Concussion Care With a Licensed Athletic Trainer and Without’. Bert Boyd, Certified Athletic Trainer at Kickapoo High School and Preceptor for the AT Program, presented in a session titled ‘Screening Tool Options: Pros and Cons’. Finally, Jim Raynor, Administrative Director for Mercy Sports Medicine in Springfield and adjunct faculty for the Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) program presented in a session titled ‘Concussion Policy Development and Implementation’.
“Jim and I were on the planning committee for the seminar which is designed for physicians, coaches, athletic trainers, nurses, and parents. It is on current management and return to play guidelines on sports related concussions. This is the second annual seminar in Springfield and it was well-attended by a variety of individuals” Dr. Allan Liggett.
