Sports Medicine and Athletic Training (SMAT) department faculty Kristin Tivener and Dr. Allan Liggett along with fourth year athletic training student, Darryl Mitchell were just published in the International Journal of Athletic Therapy and Training. The three individuals worked together to write a case report on Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus that presented with diabetic ketoacidosis requiring hospitalization.
The case report describes prevalence of diabetes, a case including medical history and diagnosis, and the clinical significance related to athletic training.
Kristin Tivener states ‘for me, one of the best parts about this case report was that Allan and I were able to work closely with an undergraduate AT student so he could be a part of the publication process. I am thrilled that as an undergraduate student, he is now able to say that he has been published in a peer-review journal; what an accomplishment for Darryl!’.
