Whatever ethnic background you come from or what nation you call home, the American Indian Student Organization is a great place to learn more about the first people of the United States. Despite the name, we are a group who is not limited to only American Indians. Despite the fact that there are no federally recognized tribes in Missouri, there is still a strong American Indian heritage in the area. Our group seeks to learn more about the American Indians, while honoring their presence in living communities, both on campus and across the nation. For those students who are American Indians, who help to provide information on area resources targeted toward their needs.
In addition to our regular twice monthly meetings, we host movie nights and American Indian activities, such as the recent Cherokee Stickball game, trips to Oklahoma for tribal activities, and have sponsored the Native American Pow-Wow for the past several years. Our fundraisers benefit these activities and help us to spread the message that the American Indians are a strong, diverse group of people who still live among us and should never be forgotten. So come join us for a rich and educational experience, while having fun with people who are interested in the same things you are.
