Those of us that are heading back to the United States for the summer decided to extend our trip a few days in Taipei, Taiwan. We flew here from Yangon and had some time to explore the city.
I have to say one of the things that I like about this city is how easy it is to travel here. The metro system (Taipei MRT) is really pretty simple and efficient. It was really easy to be able to ride it to the different sights we wanted to see.
We saw a lot in our few days here. We got to shop at night markets, eat street food, hike up to beautiful waterfalls, explore more temples, walk along Tamsui old street, and more. We went to Taipei 101 (one of tallest towers in the world), and we ate even more good food (yummy dumplings!) We were just tourists, so it was pretty laid back the whole time.
On our last day, I went to see the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial. I didn’t quite understand the importance of it, but it was still beautiful to see (It looked like the Lincoln memorial in D.C.). We also went to the National Palace Museum which houses a lot of Chinese art. The museum was actually a bit disappointing. Seeing the art was nice, but it was really crowed and there weren’t many pieces that really stood out.
Taipei is definitely a lot more developed than the other places we went. Unfortunately, that also means that everything was a lot more expensive. Still, I’m so glad we got to spend a few days here.
Now we are sitting in the Taipei airport waiting on our flight back to the United States. I have to say I’m no longer a fan of airports. We’ve spent too much time in airports on this trip. Oh well, that’s the cost of exploring the world.
