One of the things that is prevalent in my mind as I travel from developed to developing countries is the contrast in the standards of living. I am glad we are going from Vietnam to Singapore; not only because it works out well logistically, but also because of the extreme foils they will provide for one another. Singapore is considered one of the cleanness countries in the world (if not the most), and Vietnam while not the dirtiest or poorest, still has many provinces that we as Americans or developed country citizens could not imagine living in. Trust me, I’ve been to communes where the toilets are still dug in the ground and the road that takes you to them are almost impassable.
The most amazing feeling that I always get is not just the differences in how we live our daily lives but the similarities. Regardless of the different context, we all go through difficulties, enjoy the small things in life, and just try to make it to the end of the day. It really is not about when or what, but how you experience things. I really hope it will be an amazing experience for everyone because for some it is our first time, and while for others it is our two, third, fourth plus trips, but we definitely won’t have another one quite like this one again.
