Today was our free day and we spent it going to the War Remnants museum. This was extremely important as my father was in the war, he worked support training in Korea for troops and later his unit was stationed just north of Saigon and my mother was a protester of the war (wonder why their marriage didn’t last). It was extremely difficult to see the US in such a negative light, but as always, history is written by the victors so it makes sense. The hardest part of all was seeing the effects of chemical warfare. The children born with defects from Agent Orange are my age, not generations ago, but MY generation. I am proud to be an American but it is difficult to support our involvement given the devastation, but this was at the beginning of the cold war and communism was a huge threat at the time in a way we today will never understand.
After spending well over 4 hrs at the museum, Greg and I decided we would check out the local grocery store. Man does a Vietnamese grocery store put a Walmart Supercenter to shame!! They had everything from face wash to groceries to strainers & tea cups to cleaning supplies, and this was just on the first floor. The second floor was just clothing. Unfortunately they didn’t have the medical supplies we were looking for (to patch up Greg’s foot from the soccer match) so we had to leave and find a pharmacy. Just another amazing adventure in this amazing country!
